Fishermans's Knot
"As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen, "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him." Mark 1:16-18
Jesus first called fishermen to take the gospel of the kingdom to the world. They were hardy and fearless because of the nature of their trade. They were accustomed to trying circumstances and often toiled for hours without success, yet they were compelled to try try again.
Fishermen were not of a low social class, but rather men of great skill and often owners of their own ships and had others in their employ.
Fish were generally caught in three ways: by hook, spear or nets. Simon and Andrew were fishing with a net. The fisherman's net is made up of threads or lines that have been knotted together. This knot is made by tying two lines or cords together which forms a strong bond. Perhaps that is why Jesus sent the disciples out in pairs when they shared the gospel, giving one another strength and encouragement.
This bracelet is made to look like a loose weave of knots in a fisherman's net. The knot reminds us we are never alone but tied together with Christ.
